K–12 Health Education Curriculum

Abstinence-Focused Health Education Curriculum

Client: Baylor College of Medicine & Houston ISDDuration: District-Wide Implementation

District-wide HISD implementation

Key Result

The Challenge

Houston ISD needed a comprehensive, evidence-based abstinence-focused health education curriculum for grades 6–12 that met state standards, was age-appropriate across multiple grade bands, and could be implemented consistently across all middle and high schools in the district.

My Approach

Partnered with Baylor College of Medicine to research, design, and develop a full scope-and-sequence curriculum aligned to TEKS health standards. Applied backward design principles — starting with learning outcomes and working backward to content, activities, and assessments. Ensured age-appropriate scaffolding across grade bands (6–8 and 9–12) and built in teacher facilitation guides for consistent delivery.

The Outcome

Curriculum successfully created and implemented district-wide across all HISD middle and high schools. The partnership with Baylor College of Medicine ensured medical accuracy and credibility. The program reached thousands of students across one of the largest school districts in Texas.

Higher Education | Alternative Certification

TEA-Certified Virtual Alternative Certification Program

Client: Houston Community CollegeDuration: 7 months (Jan 2020 – Jul 2020)

TEA certified in 7 months

Key Result

The Challenge

When COVID-19 restrictions eliminated in-person delivery, Houston Community College's Alternative Certification Program needed its entire curriculum redesigned for virtual delivery — and certified by the Texas Education Agency — in an extremely compressed timeline. The program served adult learners preparing to enter the teaching profession.

My Approach

Served as a member of the Instructional Design Team responsible for converting the full ACP curriculum to virtual delivery. Personally authored, designed, and delivered the course Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Classroom. Applied adult learning theory (andragogy) throughout — centering learner autonomy, real-world application, and reflective practice. Collaborated closely with TEA certification requirements to ensure every course met state standards.

The Outcome

The full Alternative Certification Program was redesigned, developed, and submitted for TEA certification — completed in just 7 months. The program received TEA certification, allowing HCC to continue preparing teachers for Texas classrooms without interruption during the pandemic. The DEI course was recognized as a model for culturally responsive adult learning design.

Course Design & Facilitation

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the Classroom

Client: Houston Community College — Alternative Certification ProgramDuration: Full course lifecycle

Full design & delivery

Key Result

The Challenge

Adult learners entering the teaching profession needed a DEI course that went beyond awareness — one that translated directly into classroom practice, honored diverse lived experiences, and prepared new teachers to serve students from all backgrounds with cultural competence and equity-centered pedagogy.

My Approach

Wrote the full curriculum from scratch, designed all learning activities and assessments, and personally facilitated the course for adult learner cohorts. Grounded the course in culturally responsive teaching frameworks and critical reflection. Used case studies, scenario analysis, and collaborative discussion to bridge theory and classroom application. Designed for virtual delivery with high engagement and psychological safety.

The Outcome

Course successfully delivered to multiple cohorts of adult learners entering the teaching profession. Participants reported increased confidence in addressing equity and inclusion in their future classrooms. Course became a core component of the TEA-certified ACP curriculum.

Leadership & Educator Professional Development

Curriculum Development & Training for Leaders and Educators

Client: Educational & Organizational PartnersDuration: Ongoing

Leadership & educator impact

Key Result

The Challenge

Leaders and educators needed professional development that was practical, immediately applicable, and grounded in real organizational and classroom challenges — not generic training that failed to translate to day-to-day practice.

My Approach

Designed and delivered targeted PD programs for both educational leaders and classroom educators. Applied a needs-assessment-first approach to ensure every training was tailored to the specific context, audience, and performance gaps. Built in reflection, application activities, and follow-up support structures to sustain learning beyond the training event.

The Outcome

Participants consistently reported that training was relevant, actionable, and directly applicable to their roles. Programs supported improved leadership capacity, instructional practice, and organizational culture across partner organizations.

Full production using industry-leading authoring tools, with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) and LMS compatibility built in from the start.

04

Implement & Evaluate

Pilot testing, stakeholder review, deployment, and Kirkpatrick-model evaluation to measure reaction, learning, behavior, and results.
